Bioaroma, an integrated unit centered on the world of plants and herbs, with its own organic crops, distillery for the production-distillation of essential oils and open to the public museum and herb garden in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, was founded after long-term studies of archaeological evidence by Minoan perfumers as well as old recipes from the grandmothers of our  island, in order to create the first 100% natural, handmade cosmetics line made with raw materials from the natural abundance of Crete such as beeswax, olive oil, dittany, laudanum, etc.

Based on years of research, the evidence revealed by archaeological finds on Minoan makers of perfumes and cosmetics, and traditional recipes handed down from generation to generation of Cretan women, the BioAroma team proceeded to the production of homemade, herbal cosmetics which, for the first time ever, can be rightfully called 100% natural. The raw materials for these natural cosmetics come from the abundance of organic treasures proliferating on the blessed soil of the Cretan land from olive oil, beeswax, and sage to rarer ones and indigenous to Crete such as Cretan dittany, labdanum and a profusion of other aromatic herbs. The range of products that has emerged approaches wellness in a holistic manner. Production is carried out without the use of chemicals or preservatives and is based on traditional methods in tandem with the new technologies so that consumers may be assured that quality control and product safety have been maintained.

Cretan land was and still is a paradise of wild plants. The quality of the soil and the optimal climate of Crete are responsible for that. It is really a miracle... a miracle that bioaroma saw and took advantage in order to create and offer its products.  Ancient Minoan Civilization of Crete discover this herbal abundance 4.500 + years ago.

They created the first ointements, herbal creams, remedies and oils, using the local herbs and plants, as an offer to the Kingdom and to export them to neighbor countries, making them the first cosmetic producers. Bioaroma situated here in Crete - Greece, follows step by step the minoan's history in order to produce and offer top quality natural cosmetics using natural ingredients from herbs and plants.

The manufacturing process takes place in the traditional way along with new technologies for quality control and safety, without any use of chemicals or preservatives with the result that… there is no problem if it is eaten.

Bioaroma herbal cosmetics and the Minoans

The Cretan earth is a botanical paradise because of suitable climatic conditions and quality of the soil. A fact that prompted  the Minoans to exploit this wealth over 4,500 years ago and become the first producer of cosmetics worldwide by preparing unique natural cosmetics for the face, herbal products for the body and natural hair care products such as: creams, ointments and oils which were offered to their royalty and also exported to other nations.

That’s the reason that the most popular Minoan profession of that era was the manufacturer of perfumes, ointments and make-up.

Studies indicate that:

Cosmetics were not only intended to cover up peoples’ odors, but were to a large degree created to arouse sexual desires. They argued that physical relaxation and a gentle - erotic touch are the elements that stimulate our brains and because, as we all know, sensuality of the body is processed in the brain and in order to be stimulated you must be relaxed, sensual massage oils play an important role in this process. Another known fact is, that the pre-Hellenic word “Vrenthis”, was given to the aromatic oil extracted from a mandrake.

The art of perfumers was something between simple cooking and real chemistry: Special craftsmen manufactured cosmetics for eyes, cheeks and lips. Often many have referred to the eyelids of La Parisienne of Knossos, a great goddess or priestess, that painted the edge of her eyelids in black, or red, applied with a paintbrush on her lips.

In cosmetics, the Minoans considered Dittany and Laudanum as the holiest of ingredients. Dittany in olive oil was the highest gift to their gods and the Laudanum resin was a key component in their creams, and was also used as incense.

bioaroma products and cosmetics are  ideal for face, body and hair using only natural ingredients from Crete. Bioaroma use Olive oil, dittany and laudanum as their main ingredients.

Bioaroma’s founder Chemist MBA , MANOUSSOS PEDIADITIS:

Bioaroma was founded on March 2007 in Agios Nikolaos in Crete by Manousos Pediaditis. He has graduated from the Department of Chemistry of the University of Crete. His studies on the therapeutic properties of the wild cretan herbs inspired him to produce rare and high quality essential oils. Also Crete's natural treasures such as olive oil, beeswax and labdanum gum gave him the opportunity to produce a range of 100% natural products which offer a holistic approach to overall wellness. The ingredients are utilized in a vertical integration of production, based on traditional methods combined with new technology-all this in order to maintain quality control and safety. His slogan for his cosmetics is actually remarkable: "cosmetics so natural...that you can eat them".

Ingredients: Dittany and Labdanum.

The treasures from the Cretan land are the base of all the Bioaroma

The holiest creation of the Minoans was dittany placed in olive oil, used as an offering to their gods, and Labdanum resin, which was used in their creams and burned as incense.

Utilizing the unique properties of these products, we have used them as a base for all of our products.

Dittany which is only found in Crete is the crown of Cretan herbs with the most healing properties. Dittany’s essential oil has:

- Healing and firming properties

- Tonic, antiseptic and antispasmodic action.

- It is ideal for the healing of open wounds (Aristotle said that when the wild goats in Psiloriti were wounded by the poisoned arrows of hunters, they would chew dittany and lick their wounds thus discarding the arrows and closing their wounds !!! )

- Soothes the digestive system, and is used against colds and the flu.

- Posses antispasmodic action and can help in the management and prevention of cardiovascular and circulatory problems.

- It is known to provide relief from headaches, abscesses, upset stomach and toothaches.

- Also one of the important effects it has is that of an aphrodisiac (Here in Crete it is also referred to as "eronta", meaning “love-passion”).

“Aladanos” or Labdanum

The resin of the Labdanum plant is extracted exclusively in a unique way from the Labdanum plant on our island. Essentially, it is the sap from the Labdanum plant that is collected.

This takes place every summer under the hot sun as the plant secretes its’ resin drop by drop, which is then collected with special leather strips. The plant is beaten with these strips and the resin sticks to them and is extracted. The Labdanum plant or Labdanum is specifically known worldwide for:

- The firming and anti-aging properties

- It is considered one of the strongest resins - frankincense from antiquity and is still used in perfumery today.

- The aroma is very rich and powerful and

- We use it for protection, strength and spiritual evolution.
